I've owned/used many taillights and bicycled 6,000+ hours at night over the past 15 years on public roads in the USA.

The DS-500 is head-and-shoulders above all other taillights in terms of maximum output, user customization capability, quality of construction, ruggedness, and overall utility as a bicycle taillight and primary safety equipment. DS-500 is unique in that it's output is great enough to make a bicyclist conspicuous out in bright, sunny daytime traffic - yet can be turned down for responsible nighttime use.

If you have dependents and/or truly value your safety/life, get a DS-500 - soon!

I also recommend hi-viz lime or orange shirts for daytime rides, plus a video camera capable of resolving motor vehicle license plates (use the camera in your motor vehicle too).

This taillight give unbelievable visibility in both daytime and night. The owner of this company is a electrical engineering genius and makes an incredibly reliable product. Because he is a one-man shop, you always deal directly with Stephen and his level of customer service is incredible. Buy with confidence.

Use as daylight riding lights	June 4, 2015

I have added this light to my recumbent trike's arsenal of "awareness" lights for both day and night riding. I adapted the standard mount to attach a "RAM Mount 1" ball". this gives me an enormous amount of flexibility on how and where I mount the DS-500 on my Ice VTX. For street riding I have an extension arm off my rack that puts the DS-500 at car window level. I love DS-500's ability to chose the pattern and brightness to match conditions. A really great light that shows a lot of technology and thought that the mass market producers just can't match. Stephen's support and knowledge is second to none in this market segment.

I purchased a D.S. 500 rear light from you 11/2014. I just finished a 400k Brevet night ride w/ torrential downpours in a completely unlit, forested area, SAFELY due to your light. Thanks for creating a powerful, brilliant, taillight. The light has worked flawlessly, and with it's extremely bright throw, I can ride safer now than ever. Why someone would ever hesitate to make such a valuable investment, even if they don't plan to ride at night, is beyond my understanding. On multiple occasions, I've been questioned about the light, because of its extremely visibility, even on the lower settings. When riding with a group, I keep the light set to the lowest flashing, but still get other riders that are reluctant to ride behind me due to it's brightness...Inside, I'm ecstatic to know I'm so visible..Best investment I've ever made, next to my wife's wedding ring..And best of all it's made in AMERICA... thanks, great product....Jaime

World Class Lighting	May 11, 2015

The item is well constructed from a durable-feeling metal. It also keeps surprisingly cool, even at low speeds, which helps the light to keep lumping out intense light.

The light is brilliant for day riding. On full it is visible from some distance. At night I generally have it on the 2nd lowest setting, which is all that is required. The full setting is dazzling at night.

The unit produces light over a long distance and plenty of light is thrown sideways and backwards.

I'd certainly buy from DS again if a new interesting product is released. Excellent customer service.

Rural road safety	April 27, 2015

I ride my Catrike recumbent trike (30 speed, disk brakes) on 55 mph highways, sometimes with no shoulders. In daytime I stopped to enjoy a view. I was 300 feet past a reflective sign. My light flashes were strongly bouncing back at me from the sign. I am so impressed by this light that I have now purchased and installed the DesignShine headlight too. This is for daytime safety when on a 2 lane road cars coming in opposite directions will pass each other about where I am.

The very first day out on the road I had a guy pull up next to me in a car and say, "man you are never going to get hit with that light on your bike, i saw it a mile away and thought it was a cop car!" You will never need another bike light after buying this. Its money very well spent and the entire buying experience was as easy as can be. Customer service is also top notch in every respect. Best taillight ever made; should've bought sooner.	April 10, 2015

Been using the DS-500 for 3+ months; it gets a comment at least once a week.
- "The hellfire of all blinkies!"
- "What taillight is that? I like it!" (from a motorist)
- "I just had to chase you to find out what that is!"

(I tell them all to search for "Design Shine 500".)

It's solidly built and it's evident a TON of craftsmanship and thought goes into it. Most importantly: it's by far THE most visible and eye-catching light there is; let a friend borrow it and have them go up the road.

My recommendations: familiarize yourself with operating the DS-500 before mounting it, know which mode you're in at all times, and be ready to adjust to avoid over-dazzling people as needed.

I use ithe MJ-6030 battery (buy extra straps for it) and get at least 9 hours on high, no problem. Haven't let it drain fully since I charge it after every weekend.

Summary? Should've bought this sooner instead of buying other, lesser lights. You'll giggle at how they (actually) pale in comparison.

I can now bike to town with traffic and feel slightly less anxious about unaware (texting,etc.) drivers. Being in small town Georgia, motorists are not as aware of bicyclists as I would like for them to be and this light is a powerful tool to demand attention. Thank you for what you do!
